Natural Weed Remedies

There are many herbicides available for purchase, but here are a few natural remedies using common household items. When using these methods remember to only apply to areas you want removed. Avoid getting any substance on important plants. It is also best to treat your weeds when the weather is dry and no rain is expected.

White Vinegar
Formula: Pure White Vinegar
Method: Spray directly onto the weed growth

Salt
Formula: One part salt in two parts water
Method: Spray or pour only in areas where you want absolutely no plant growth (driveways, patios, walkways)

Dish Soap
Formula: 1 part liquid detergent to 10 parts water
Method: Soak the weeds with a heavy mist

Lemon Juice
Formula: Pure Lemon Juice (save money by using 1/2 cup lemon juice with 1 quart pure white vinegar)
Method: Spray directly onto the weed growth

Rock Salt
Formula: Pure rock salt
Method: Spread evenly in areas where you want no plant growth

Rubbing Alcohol
Formula: 1 tsp. of rubbing alcohol with 1 liter of water

Mulch
Mulch can also be a weed preventer. It discourages weed growth and blocks sunlight. For best results, apply at 3 inches.
